Reflection.
What did I do? (Remembering): I feel that I further dove in to my role as the instructional designer on this project as I worked on the analysis report. I spent a lot of time on the analysis report and feel as though my communication with my partner, Nicole, was not as clear as I had intended. Due to miscommunication, I feel both Nicole and I did work on combining edits that may not have been necessary with clearer communication. I also feel as though I did not communication with my team as well as I intended as I survived an event-filled week at work and with my professional organizations. It was a great reminder for me that no matter how crazy things may get, a simple check in can go further than thought.
What was important about it? (Understanding): The analysis report is important in guiding what in needed for instructional development. Without a clear analysis, uncertainty will flood the instructional design and could compromise the project. Also, good communication is EXTREMELY important in group project such as these to maintain a level of understanding among each group member. Is the Google+ platform the best method of communication over email? Is there another better method that we all check on a regular/daily basis?
Where could I use this again? (Application): I will be reviewing the analysis report again as I design the instructional content. Communication skills will be used throughout the reminder of this project to maintain understanding, convey needs, offer input and other important tasks. The lessons learned about the importance of good communication skills will be essential in any future project or group work task.
Do I see any patterns in what I did? (Analysis): Actually, this week was outside of my norm performance due to the burden that work and outside professional organizations placed on my schedule. I need to learn to do a better job of communicating with my group of my events and upcoming schedule ahead of time to avoid any miscommunication or unintended perceptions.
How well did I do? (Evaluating): Based on my weeks performance, I feel I did well on my effort on the analysis report, however I need to improve my communication skills in regards to sharing effort with Nicole on the workload and with my team members as I was unable to meet at the time of the team meeting. I did speak to Nicole today and I feel that we have come up with a plan to eliminate further unnecessary work when handling editing of documents in the future.
What should I do next? (Creating): Communicate promptly and regularly. Also, I need to elicit input from the other group members on the analysis report and finalize the document with Nicole before posting to the team website.
