Tasks.
Reflection.
What did I do? (Remembering): This week has been a week. All I thought about this week was eating, sleeping, and IDT group project. As a team, we completed making videos for all of our units and have begun “crunch time” with designing and developing our modules in AS2. We have managed to maintain our communication well despite a very busy week.
What was important about it? (Understanding): This week is important to remind each of us about the importance of clear communication as the going gets tough. Due to the time limitation, I have experienced several episodes of anxiety and worry about project completion in time for formative evaluation. Although anxiety is never a good thing, I feel my anxiety did prompt the team to reconsider what we need to have done in a very little amount of time and with so much information expected from our clients. Amy, as team leader, instigated communication with the clients and Dr. Martindale to revisit the final product expectations. Although we are still in a time crunch, the communication and difficult conversations did tame the anxiety (a bit).
Where could I use this again? (Application): This feeling I experienced this week will not be forgotten. No matter how much front-end planning you do, as the deadline approaches, anxiety levels rise regardless (for me anyways). I must learn to control my anxiety as the deadlines approach and have faith that I gave it my best effort. I must continue to learn that although extensions are not ideal, they exist for a reason. Budgeting for time and money is all estimated and we do the best we can.
Do I see any patterns in what I did? (Analysis): Yes, I do have a tendency to become quite anxious as deadlines grow nearer. I need to learn from my anxiety pattern and adapt as able to prevent errors in my work and pressure on the team. Fortunately, in my case I have received excellent support and guidance.
How well did I do? (Evaluating): Despite my anxiety, I feel that I perform well under pressure. I have spent a lot of time on the team project this week, as have my other teammates, maintained my job (or at least I hope), was able to care for my children (with the help of my husband, of course), and survived. That’s a win in my mind.
What should I do next? (Creating): The next step is pacing myself to complete Unit 2 and Unit 3 modules (script recordings and interactions) by Tuesday evening, then rest and recovery.
